If you consumed pork in BD and didn't loose religion, will not eating beef be any different.
Those Hindu Hindu who opposing just beef from meat , what the have to say to fellow hindu, let alone buddhist , who are vegeterian.
I spend some if my early years in Punjab and Kashmir on Pakistan side. When playmates there found out we cook beef, some teased us for that. Because they thought beef is for poor or lower class, they preferred mutton or chicken. I noticed, my mom preferred mutton and chicken, when Dad thought beef is preferable ; mom picked cooking of the locals, that explains her preference.
All the fuss over beef or not beef is like reliving my days, when Gulliver's travel was a favorite.
Chill out, take a long breath and pay attention to pressing issue.

Calcutta
(kolkata) had an excellent kabab shop near new Market called
NIZAM's. Now because of internal problems it exists in
the form of many small outlets.. Its specialty was
"kheeri kabab". A kabab made from kheeri or the
udder of a cow ( bullocks do not have udders). I loved the
dish and was a daily customer as long as I stayed there.
Guess who were the majority of the customers? You have
guessed it right. They were dhuti clad Hindus!!! Even today,
inspite of Modi and his ilk. beef is openly sold and
consumed in W. Bengal.
There
was a medical doctor who worked in the same town as myself
in Nigeria in the mid seventies. We had invited a few
families for dinner. We deliberately kept the beef items
separate at the end of the table. it was a buffet. So he
started to serve himself and when he neared the beef I
cautioned him that the item was made of beef. He took a
bigger than normal helping and said, "Javed Bhai jab
maas (flesh), kha liya to beef aur mutton main koi farak
nahi hai"'
I
had pork once by mistake at the Sheraton in Dhaka in the
early seventies. I worked for an advertising firm then and
had taken a client for lunch. Buffet again. I packed my
plate with all the meat items on the table. While partaking
the delights,I found one item somewhat different
in texture. Thought it could be a young cow. When I went for
the seconds, I saw a card saying that particular item was
Pork. What could I do? What was done could not be
undone.
But
then I was angry that how could pork be served openly in
Bangladesh. I
did know that in Narinda and Hatkhola areas the
"mehtors" raised pigs
and the local Christians used to buy from them.
Similarly,
there was an Indian professor living next door to us.
Whenever we invited him, we ourselves became vegetarians for
the day. this called Ikram. Our gesture was highly
appreciated every time we did so.. If the AL did what it did
for "ikram" then I have no problems. But if they
did it to show slave mentality to the masters then there is
a serious problem!

Mr. MR,
Who are you trying to protect? What are you trying to
defend and justify?
First of all, all non-Muslims are NOT non-beef eaters and
all Hindus are NOT
non-beef
or meat eaters either. If you have never seen it or
experienced it, I pity your knowledge.
Many a times we have non-Muslims, including Hindus,
guests at home. That did not stop us to serve beef dishes.
If there are known veterinarians, we do prepare a dish or
two for them. Usually, we Bengalis are good hosts and love
to present multiple dishes
at the dinning table. If you are a one-dish type, sorry
about it.
At
the AL Convention, what was the percentage of
Hindu/vegetarian attendees? Certainly it would not go
beyond a single digit. Does it mean, the organizers deprived
more than 90% other participants of beef dishes just for
the sake of a small minority? Why
? What prevented them to cater vegetarian dishes (which I
am sure there were) for those who shunned beef? If the fear
was "mix-up", they could even bring some live cows
standing beef dishes to warn the suspicious
vegetarians. Your argument falls flat, Mr.
MR.
Similarly,
was beef Tehari the only item served during the occasion at
DU? Was it the first time they prepared beef Tehari there.
Why the vegetarians could not go for something of their
choice, rather than beating the cooks and managers? Do you
then suggest
the DU hostels, canteens--in fact all hotels and
restaurants in Bangladesh--should stop serving beef or meat
items because there lived non-Muslims there?
I am
no beef lover, but it is a question of one's freedom to
eat anything one chooses. No religion, no Hafazati, no JI or
Muslim here. Just because someone doesn't like beef,
the rest should also stop eating that? Absurd. Bangladeshis
should live like Bangladeshis
and not like the life emulating an alien culture.

I am not sure whether
this is just chicanery or plain stupidity on the part of
these people, perhaps both. Beef was nor served at the Awami
League council because there were many non-Muslim
participants and guests.
Similarly there was protest over serving beef tehari at the
Dhaka University canteen only because non-Muslim students
were not warned about it or were not provided with
alternative dishes made of other kinds of meat. It was so
convenient of Messers Chowdhurys
and Khans to turn these events into conspiracy to make the
country "gorur gosht"-less! While the Hafazatis
and a host of others are making every effort to turn the
country into a fundamentalist, obscurantist, state, these
men look for dark efforts on the part
of the so-called secularists to to turn it into a Hindu
state, preferably a stooge of India. I shall not be
surprised if these people are in fact in secret cahoots with
the Hefazatis, working to attain the same goals.

Rashed A has detailed an exhaustive scenario that Bangladesh
suffers today because of official and unofficial
anti-Islamic practices in the country for past decade or
so.
The fact that beef was prohibited during Awami League
Council Meetings last year and a Dhaka University Canteen
owner was recently beaten up for making beef-tehari are
evidence enough to demostrate which way the the
overwhelmingly Muslim majority Bangladesh
is heading. Government doesn't have to issue an
official decree for it,
Ishara-i kafi. I am not aware if such implicit
order is prevailing anywhere in the world. Most Muslims do
not consume pork, yet I am not sure if Islamic
countries--except
perhaps a few GCC countries-- officially prohibit its
cooking.
I understand making or
installation of statue, particularly of human being, is
totally anti-Islamic. If one doesn't like to
subscribe to that
injunction, it is
one's choice. If people want to adore them privately,
that's their choice too. But, having them in public
place will definitely raise questions for deeply
religious people.
With more than 90%
Muslims, Bangladesh should be Islamic in character
but secular spirit; i.e., no restriction on any faith.
Once we accept this fact, all contradictions will be over.
Unfortunately, to most Bangladeshi secularists,
the idea is to oppose everything Islamic. And that is the
problem we are facing today. Let us follow
Lakum Deenukum Wal Ya Deen.

Agree with everything Dr Rashed Anam said and
disagree with what Dr Taj Hashmi wrote. Far from being
imaginary, unofficial ban on beef is already in force
starting with DU fine arts faculty canteen and other places
around. In view of what is
unfolding in Bangladesh, politically and
culturally, due to ever widening Indian influence and
intervention, who knows what is there in store for the
people of Bangladesh? Secondly, Muslim Bangladesh cannot
have and should not establish a statue culture in violation
of the spirit of Islamic practice

থাকে। হোটেলে হোটেলে নো
বীফ'র সাইনবোর্ড গোটা
জাতিকে হতবাক করে দেয়।
হিন্দুরা গরুর গোশত
খায়না। না খেতে পারে,
তাতে আমাদের
কোনো অসুবিধা নেই।
গরুর গোশত হিন্দু ছাড়া
দুনিয়ার সকল মানুষ
তৃপ্তি ভরে খায়। কথা
হলো হিন্দুরা গরুর গোশত
খায়না তাই আর কেহ খেতে
পারবে না? হ্যাঁ
খৃস্টান ইহুদী নাস্তিক
অধার্মিক যে কেউ খেতে
পারে শুধু হিন্দুদের
প্রতিবেশি কোনো
মুসলমান হলে সে আর গরু
খেতে পারবে না। আসামে
ভারতের জংগী দল বিজেপে
বলেছে যে,তারা ওখানে
গরু খাওয়া নিষিদ্ধ করবে
না। কারণ সেখানের
অধিকাংশ খৃস্টান।
কিন্তু ইউপি সহ মুসলিম
অধ্যুষিত এলাকায় গরু
জবাই শুধু নিষিদ্ধ নয়
মৃত্যুদন্ড ও বটে। কেন
তাহলে এমন আচরণ শুধু
মুসলমানদের সাথে?
ধর্মনিরপেক্ষতার মানে
কি শুধু মুসলমানদের
অধিকার হরণ? ভারত যতই
মুখে দাবী করুক যে তারা
গণতন্ত্রকামী,কিন্তু
বাস্তবে সেখানে
হিন্দুত্ববাদ তথা
হিন্দুজংগীবাদ তারা
কায়েম করে রেখেছে। আসলে
বিশ্বব্যাপী
মুসলমানদের কুণ্ঠাসা
করে রাখার এটিও একটি
প্লান। দিন কিন্তু সমান
যায় না। সামনে আরো দিন
আছে। হিন্দুরা শক্তির
পুঁজা করে। একদিন
পুঁজা তোরা করেছিলি,
ইনশা আল্লাহ আরো
কিছুদিন পর
মুসলমানদেরও পুঁজা
তোমরা শুরু করবে তাতে
কোনো সন্দেহ নেই। ভারতে
মুসলমানরা হলো হিন্দুর
প্রতিবেশি। আর
বাংলাদেশে হিন্দুরা
মুসলমানদের
প্রতিবেশি। তাহলে
এখানে মুসলমানরা কি
তাদের জন্য গরু খাওয়া
বন্ধ করে
দিতে হবে? কেন? কার
স্বার্থে? বৃটিশ আমলে
বেনিয়ারা জোর করে
মুসলমানদের শুকরের
গোশত খাওয়াতো, যা
ইসলামে মুসলমানদের
জন্য হারাম। কিন্তু
কোনো মুসলমান কি কোনো
হিন্দুকে জোর করে গরুর
গোশত খাইতে বাধ্য
করেছে? না, করার কি
দরকার? সে খাবে না, এটা
তার বিশ্বাসের বিষয়
নাকি প্রথা
আর যাই হউক সে তার মতো
থাকুক। কিন্তু কেন ওরা
মুসলমানদের নিজেদের
মতো থাকতে দিতে চায়না?
বাংলাদেশ গণতান্ত্রিক
দেশ। ধর্মনিরপেক্ষতার
দেশ। বলা হয় যারতার
ধর্ম পালনের অধিকার
সংরক্ষীত থাকবে। তাহলে
এখানে মুসলমানদের
হালাল গোশত কেন হারাম
করে দেয়া হবে? কেন তারা
তাদের অধিকার
থেকে বঞ্চিত হবে? এই
বিষয়টা আমাদের এখন
ভাবিয়ে তুলেছে।
হিন্দুরা এতো হিংস্র
কেন? কেন তারা পরমত
সহিষনু নয়? কেন তারা জোর
করে নিজের ধর্ম বিশ্বাস
অন্যের উপর চাপিয়ে দিতে
চায়?

কেন তাহলে? এটা কি
সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠ জাতিকে
জোর করে হিন্দু বানানোর
ষড়যন্ত্র? এখন কদিন পর
যদি এখানে কোনো খৃস্টান
বিচারপতি বসেন! তাহলে
তিনি
সকলকে মদপানসহ শুকর
খেতে হয়তো বাধ্য করবেন?
আবার মুসলমান কোন
বিচারপতি হলে
হিন্দুদের গরুর গোশত
খাওয়াবেন? সভ্য সমাজের
জন্য এর চেয়ে খারাপ
উদাহরণ আর কি হতে পারে?
আমরা প্রধান বিচারপতি
সিনহা'র পদত্যাগ চাই।
কারণ তিনি নিরপেক্ষ
থাকতে ব্যর্থ হয়েছেন।
একজন বিচারপতির
পদত্যাগের
জন্য আর কোন প্রমাণের
প্রয়োজন আছে বলে মনে
করিনা। তাই যত দ্রুত
সম্ভব আপনি পদত্যাগ
করলে জাতি উপকৃত হবে
